Prism on the High Desk
I crept cautiously along the wide edge of the oak desk, pausing to survey the empty rug down below before taking another step. High perches make the whole room feel orderly. Near the corner, a heavy faceted glass paperweight caught the midday sun, casting quiet slivers of pale color across the wood grain. I tilted my head, studying the shifting light, then took one slow step closer and nudged the cool glass with my snout. The bright flares leaped across the wall and settled into a steady, brilliant glow.
