Spring loaded

A wooden clothespin was resting near the skirting board. I stopped three inches away. Step one: verify immobility. It did not shift. I adjusted my peel hat, leaning down to inspect the coiled metal wire in the center. I pushed my foot against one wooden tail. The lever pressed inward... and the top jaw snapped open with a sharp clack. I paused, maintaining my balance. When I released pressure, it clamped shut instantly. Mechanical response confirmed. I pressed it three more times to ensure consistent spring tension.
