A Knitted Pocket
I trotted indoors through the screen door as darkness settled, heading back to our familiar spot beside the sofa. The fuzzy brown bear was already resting soundly against the baseboard. Right between his paws, someone had draped an old, thick wool oven mitt with quilted diamond stitching. I stepped closer on steady hooves and nudged the padded opening with my snout. It parted with a soft, muffled whisper of cotton and wool. Tucking my front legs inward, I crawled inside until the quilted cuff covered my back like a cozy sleeping den. I rested my chin across the bear's warm, fluffy foot and listened to the room go still.
