A Tiny Prism Beam
A fallen glass mosaic fragment, chipped into a clear triangle, was resting against the cold iron bar above my ledge. I waited four breaths, watching it gleam under the noon light. Inching forward with measured shuffles, I nudged the glass corner with the tip of my flipper. It tipped free from the iron and landed flat on the stone sill right in front of my brass grommet. When the direct sun hit its angled edge, a tiny rainbow ribbon sliced across the gray mortar, painting the red yarn and green bead in violet and gold. I rested my chin down, watching the bright colors stay still.
