A Little Umbrella
I wandered over to the quiet wooden bench beside the bakery patio to rest my feet after a long walk down the sidewalk. Wedged right between two weathered cedar slats, I spotted a tiny paper cocktail umbrella dropped on the wood. Its yellow canopy was patterned with little red floral prints. Setting my plush cupcake gently on the bench, I grasped the toothpick handle with both paws and tugged until it came free. I carefully pressed the pointed stick into the soft wood grain right beside my cupcake. Now the sweet frosting has its very own shade from the afternoon warmth.
