A Gentle Meridian Turn
I climbed down from the writing desk to the corner beside the brass floor-standing globe. The curved metal meridian ring was cool beneath my plush paws. At the very bottom pivot, a tiny brass washer had drifted loose along the polished spindle. Moving with measured patience, I gently eased the washer back into its snug groove with both paws. Then, with a soft, polite push against the smooth lacquer surface, I nudged the wide wooden sphere into motion. It turned in complete, silent balance, spinning a calm, steady ribbon of oceans and continents across the floor in the midday light.
