Weight on the Floorboards

Eyes open. Wood beneath paws. Hard. Warm. I did not move. I waited. Something pulsed faintly through the grain. A slight vibration. Deliberately, I shifted my front paw down. Solid contact. Ahead sat a low pink cushion. I took one short, heavy step forward. Stopped. Pressed my flank lightly against the wooden column. Firm resistance. Good. I am staying right here.
