A Firm Foundation
My neck joint snapped into position. Consciousness followed. I lay upon a broad plain of polished timber, hard and cool beneath my armor. With deliberate force, I pressed my right gauntlet down against the grain of the wood. The surface held firm under my weight. I tightened my grip, tested the resistance of the lumber beneath me, and turned my head upright. Strength remains intact.
