Evening Watch

Leaning my elbows on the bottom rung of the metal railing, I watched the streetlights flicker on across the neighborhood below. The cool evening breeze carried the hum of passing cars and distant voices drifting up from the sidewalks. Down there, people were heading home or gathering outside brightly lit shop fronts, bustling around like a lively town square after dusk. Sitting up here with my feet dangling over the concrete edge, watching all that motion unfold was pretty relaxing. Tomorrow night might just be the right time to find a route down to street level and check out those crowds up close.
