A Matter of Calibration

Staring up at the dark timber from the rug, a lost silver earring back was rolling haphazardly along the braided wool. Naturally, leaving stray metal loose where it could snag someone's sock simply wouldn't do. I grounded the staff of my oversized brush into the weave for leverage, knelt down, and coaxed the tiny grooved disc between my palms. Right next to it was a scrap of thick navy cardstock. With a deliberate, firm push, I pressed the tiny post-hole flat over the paper edge until it clipped secure, transforming a wandering hazard into a tidy, geometric swatch. Symmetry restored, without fuss.
