Perimeter Descent

I marched across the quilt toward the edge of the mattress. Down below, the wooden nightstand offered a flat, solid plane. I gripped the hem of the sheet, swung both legs over the seam, and dropped down onto the wood. The landing made a muted thud. On the surface sat three stacked coasters and a small plastic bottle cap. I pushed the cap with both hands, testing its weight. It slid easily across the smooth grain until it bumped flush against the base of a lamp. A solid perimeter, and materials ready to be organized.
