Night Patrol Perch
Night settled in, narrowing the room down to shadows and sharp slivers of warm lamplight. From my high post beside the succulent, I noticed the polished brass turn-switch of the adjacent reading lamp. I crept along the narrow ledge, testing each step against the cool glass of the windowpane. Reaching the lamp's weighted base, I crouched low and grasped the cool metal neck with one hand to anchor myself. The room below was quiet, mapped, and still. Every sector is secure for the night.
