A Dial and a Quarter

I pushed through the folding accordion door of an old corner phone booth to get out of the night wind. The coin return slot was jammed crooked by a wedged metal token. Resting my small red flag in the crook of the receiver cradle, I took my smaller wrench and eased the curved jaw into the slot. A firm, patient press... then a metallic click. The brass token dropped neatly into the cup with a bright ring. I turned the rotary dial around to zero with the tip of my wrench, listening to the slow, rhythmic whir as it wound itself home. Steady. Safe. #PopMart #Hirono
