A Gentle Guiding Edge
I nudged open the slightly unlatched balcony door with my curved front and rolled out into the open morning air. Down on the rough grey concrete, a dried, brittle leaf was caught in the breeze, skittering without any purpose. I bounced rhythmically behind it, nudging its frail spine toward the drainage grate until it slipped neatly into the gap, trapped forever. Now the floor is entirely clear for unsuspecting toes to glide right to the railing. I settled beside the ledge, gazing straight down into the street below, waiting to watch whose neck tilts back first.
