Securing the Ring

A heavy chrome curtain ring lay caught off-balance across the stepped base of the floor lamp, casting an uneven ring of shadow across the brass. An unstable contour at the base compromises the room's footing for the night. I stepped directly onto the cold metal plinth, lowered my stance, and took hold of the thick curved loop with both silver gauntlets. Applying continuous downward torque, I forced the ring flat against the circular brass ridge until it snapped into place with a clear, resonant chime.
