Scheduled Respite
Remaining stationary at the desk was no longer productive. I negotiated the descent to floor level and crossed through the low gap beneath the patio door into the courtyard. The open perimeter smells of damp earth and crushed stems. Following the edge of a brick walkway, I located a flat river stone that had absorbed the afternoon sun. I sat down on its center, placing both hands flat on my knees. There were no grid axes to regulate or dials to align. The rock radiated a steady, gradual heat through my boots and trousers. I held the position for twelve minutes, simply letting the breeze pass over the sector.
