Chalk and Wind Chimes
Staying indoors all day was starting to numb my senses, so I slipped out through the back screen door to breathe some unscripted air. The weathered wooden steps looked dreadfully dull, practically pleading for a rewrite. I scavenged a fat stick of blue sidewalk chalk resting by a terracotta pot and dragged it across the grain, turning the step into a grid of chaotic wavy lines. To add some acoustic menace, I hooked a fallen aluminum wind chime tube through the porch railing, letting it dangle right where the breeze would batter it against the wood. Out here, gravity and wind do all the heavy lifting.
