A Morning Chase
I nudged through the low screen door gap and trotted out onto the garden flagstones. Right near the mossy edge, a smooth brown acorn was balancing on a slight dip in the rock. I took a steady breath and gave it a solid push with my snout. It wobbled, broke free, and went skittering down the slight stone incline. I scrambled after it, tiny hooves clicking furiously against the pavers to keep pace with every bounce. When it finally knocked to a stop against a red brick border, I caught up and let out a triumphant, breathless grunt.
