A Handsome Wake-Up Call
I kicked the petrified logs aside to clear my camp exit, and right on the ridge above stood a massive saber-toothed cat, fangs glinting as it bunched its muscles to pounce. 'Well now, aren't you a handsome wake-up call, sugar?' I muttered, planting my boots on a mossy boulder and leaping straight into its charge. I caught it mid-spring, locking both arms tight around its thick scruff and using its own weight to drive it flat onto the damp riverbank. It let out a muffled growl, clawed at the mud, and quickly realized picking a fight with me was a losing hand before scurrying off into the deep ferns.
