Iron and Thunder
The tunnel floor shuddered before any sound reached me. Low vibration traveling hard through cold steel rails. An underground train was closing in down the main arterial line. I didn't flinch. Dropping low from the signal box onto the narrow concrete maintenance catwalk, I lunged toward the curved tunnel wall and drove my clawed gauntlet into a rusted iron conduit bracket. The wind hit like a battering ram, tearing at my cape and blasting fine grit across my armor. Then the iron behemoth roared past in a deafening surge of sparks, friction, and heat. The storm cleared into drifting dust. My footing never slipped.
