Stiff hinges on the screen door were begging for an excuse to snap off completely. I hauled myself up onto an overturned plastic flowerpot, wedging my boot against the rim to keep steady. The latch was jammed tight with peeling green paint and dead moss. Rather than waste daylight picking at it, I brought the flat guide bar of the chainsaw arm right against the strike plate and gave it a solid, levered shove. Metal groaned, paint flaked like dried crust, and the bolt popped free with a hard clatter. Screen swung wide.
