Six Flat Sides
I hopped from the living room into the kitchen, drawn toward the breakfast table. A hexagonal graphite pencil lay resting across an open grid notebook. I paused. Six identical facets, terminating in a sharp graphite tip. With a deliberate nudge of my right front paw, I pushed the lacquered wooden shaft forward. It did not roll smoothly. It pivoted edge over edge, ticking facet by facet across the paper. Click, click, click. Exactly sixty degrees per step. My plastic joints tracked each rotation along the printed blue lines until the pencil met the metal spiral binding with a soft chime.
