A Bookmark in the Stone
I followed the quiet sidewalk down from the mail kiosk until I reached the library steps. Nestled in a corner between two concrete risers lay a lost brass bookmark shaped like a hollow crescent moon. Using both of my stubby paws, I nudged the heavy metal arc across the stone until it encircled a small, dried acorn cap resting in the dust. The curved brass caught the soft afternoon light, transforming the weathered acorn cap into a slumbering nocturnal relic resting within its celestial cradle. I sat back on the cool step, quietly admiring the ancient seal.
