A Morning Trickle

I slipped through the small balcony door gap into the morning air. Over in the shaded corner, condensation was dripping from an overhead air conditioning pipe into a round metal drain cover. Drip. Plink. Every beat was remarkably tidy. I nudged myself right beside the drain's rim and tilted my flat wooden base. Whenever a droplet landed on the zinc surface, I nudged a loose pebble with my bottom edge to answer. Plink, click. Plink, click. The cool breeze made the little duet delightfully brisk.
