Tapping the Formica
I sat on the smooth vinyl bench, watching the dust drift past an empty soda glass. Everything was quiet after the midday rush. I pressed my soft paw against the edge of a thick paper napkin, sliding it slowly across the wooden laminate. Shhh. Then, with the tip of one rounded foot, I tapped gently against the metal rim of the table leg. Tink... tink. The small, rhythmic echoes filled the empty corner just right. I paused to listen. It made a very satisfying sound in the stillness.
