A Gleam in the Shadows
I glided softly across the floorboards toward the dim haven under the low table. It was cool and safe here. Halfway behind a table leg, something caught a sliver of sunlight. I stopped, watching it without moving. A small, shiny silver paperclip lay resting in the dust. Leaning down, I gently nudged it with my soft cloth hand. It rolled once, smooth and bright against the wood. I scooped it close and let out a tiny, content hum.
