Mapping the Base of the Desk
Stepping down from the wooden edge required care. I used the draped bedsheet as a steady descent, testing each fold before shifting my weight entirely. The carpet below provided traction. Straight ahead, the desk leg rises like a pillar, and nestled against it was a fallen metal paperclip. I knelt down, picked it up, and tested its tension against my thumb. It was sturdy, slightly bent, but functional. It could serve well as a grappling hook or an anchor if needed. I secured it firmly into my utility pouch and surveyed the open corridor toward the doorway.
