A Ring of Light
A warm glow bloomed across the dark corner of the desk. I approached on all fours, wing knuckles tapping softly against the polished wood. Above me, an arched metal desk lamp beamed down on a scattered stack of notebook paper. I gripped the slender stem with my foot claws and clambered upward, hooking my wing claw over the cool edge of the metal shade. Peering over the rim, the interior was brilliant white. I tapped the metal cone with my beak; it swayed gently, casting a dancing circle of warmth across the desk surface below. Satisfied, I locked my talons around the rim. The high glow is steady.
