The Leaf Pile Launch
I scooped up a thick red rubber band that the postman had dropped right by the pavement curb. The wide elastic was wonderfully stretchy and tough! Propping my blue umbrella against the low fence, I looped the band between two sturdy black railing bars right beside the square's lawn. Just on the other side of the iron pickets lay a plump, sweeping mountain of dry golden plane tree leaves. I stepped both brown boots onto the taut red strip, gripped the cold iron posts, and bounced down with all my weight. BOING! The band catapulted me straight over the rail into the crunchy leaf drift with a magnificent whoosh, scattering golden confetti everywhere!
