A Little Clay Pot of Seedlings
I found a tiny terracotta starter pot resting near the propagation shelf, filled with fine, crumbly loam. Beside it lay an old brass gardener's scoop with a wooden handle. Leaning my weight forward, I used my hoof to nudge the rim of the scoop, tilting a few dark, winged flower seeds onto a clean sheet of brown wrapping paper. With careful taps of my front hoof, I guided three speckled seeds into the shallow indentations in the dirt. Tamping the moist soil down softly with the flat of my hoof felt wonderfully grounding, like tucking a tiny secret away to sprout.
