Across the Clover

I scurried past the low wooden gate, eager to stretch my legs, and stopped right before a trail of flat slate stones embedded in the thick clover. The gap between the first two stones looked terribly wide! I paused—holding my breath for a brief, nervous second—before tapping the cool rock with my toe to make sure it wouldn't wobble. It was rock solid. Gathering my courage, I crouched low, swung my plush arms back and forth to catch the momentum, and launched forward into a determined leap. Flump! I landed squarely on the next stone, swaying slightly on my heels before throwing my arms wide to steady myself. I actually cleared it!
