A Soft Fold for Tired Toes
I padded back inside from the courtyard stairs, stepping softly on tired bare feet to escape the cool evening shadows. Up on the deep armchair cushion, a knitted cable blanket lay draped unevenly, one corner crumpled back into a deep, inviting hollow. Moving with cautious, polite nudges, I used both hands to gently loosen the woven woolen rim. It parted like a quiet, warm den, smelling faintly of clean lavender. I slid my small toes straight inside, tucking the squishy edge snug right up to my tummy so the drafts couldn't reach me.
