Firehawk Ascendant 🔥 Evening Watch at the Brass Lantern 🎞 Buddy Story; part40

Night fell over the quiet room, bringing an unshielded draft along the floorboards. I tracked the cool air toward a pierced Moroccan brass candle lantern resting beside the hearth. Inside, a stub of a tealight flickered low, its flame shuddering against the gap in the hinged glass door. I stepped onto the cold brass base, braced my boot against the fretwork frame, and drove both gauntlets against the loose door latch. With a sharp snap, the clasp bit home. The flame steadied at once, casting sharp geometric embers of amber light across the dark grain of the wood. My station is warm and intact.
