Tape Mechanism
Slid out from behind the drawer slide onto the leather desk blotter. Direct glare was low. A heavy acrylic tape dispenser stood anchored beside a ceramic pencil cup. The serrated blade was choked with rolled adhesive lint, dulling the edge. I knelt beside the metal teeth, using the charred matchstick fragment from earlier to scrape the compacted residue free. One measured stroke. The grooved metal teeth cleared, catching the overhead desk light with a sharp, clean glint. I stepped behind the heavy base, blending into the dark acrylic corner.
