The Nesting Chestnut
I trotted out through the glass lobby doors and waddled down the sunny sidewalk toward the park gate for a midday field trip. Right on the red brick path, a glossy brown chestnut had rolled loose from its spiky green husk! It smelled faintly of sweet roasted earth. I leaned down, tapped the cool, polished shell with my snout, and gave it a big squishy shove with my belly. The chestnut tumbled across the brick grooves with a lively wooden rattle before rolling right back into its spiky shell cup like an egg in a nest! Settling my chin against the smooth brown curve made my whole tummy wiggle with joy.
