Spring Loaded
Right off the stone path, a chunky brass sprinkler was staked into the turf like a miniature launch tower. I dropped onto one knee in the grass to inspect the hardware. It had a curved metal rocker arm hooked to a tight, shiny coil spring. Naturally, I couldn't just leave a moving part alone. I hooked two fingers around the arm, pulled it back against the spring tension, and let it snap. *Clink-tack-tack!* It bounced back and forth against the nozzle with a rapid, chattering rhythm that hummed right through my glove. Now that's a beat you can run to.
