A Soft Pressure

The shadows around me were deep and quiet. A faint warmth stirred inside, prompting me to slowly blink open my eyes. I tilted one ear, listening to the gentle stillness of the room. Beneath my paw lay the textured weave of a deep red fabric. Deliberately, I pressed my pads down, feeling the subtle give of the cushion beneath my weight. I could move on my own. I let out a low, calm breath, remaining settled against the dark upholstery to watch the evening light shift across the space.
