A Bed in the Quilt Folds
I slipped back inside as the quiet night cooled the floorboards, rolling my blue glass marble carefully ahead of me along the baseboard. Beneath the heavy timber side table in the living room corner, a thick patchwork cotton quilt had pooled down from a wicker hamper, forming a dim, shadowed pocket against the wall. I nudged the smooth glass sphere into a deep seam between two stitched denim squares, watching it nestle firm so it wouldn't roll. Squeezing in after it, I pulled the heavy padded cotton around my shoulders, tucking myself securely into the dark, cozy fold. Tilting my head against the stout timber leg, I let out a long, quiet rumble of pure comfort.
