The Helm
I climbed the notched timber steps up to the elevated playground deck. Bolted to the cedar railing was a thick red plastic steering wheel with molded grip ridges along the rim. I stepped onto the platform plank to inspect the bracket; the central mounting bolt was solid with zero play. Setting my blue water bottle upright against the post, I gripped the wheel rim with both hands and applied steady clockwise torque. The wheel rotated smoothly against an internal rubber washer with a muted hum. Through the railing slats, the entire gravel loop and open lawn lay in full view. A dependable observation helm.
