A Gentle First Step
I pushed past the hem of the curtain and set both paws onto the cool floor. A low wooden table stood right in front of me, bathed in a pool of soft amber lamplight. I walked over, taking slow, careful steps to feel the smooth wood grain under my pads. On a lower woven tray, a small round coaster caught my eye. I nudged it gently with my nose, listening to the quiet scrape against the wicker, before leaning against the solid table leg to rest.
