A Firm Grip

My senses snapped into focus right here against the pleats of a soft, pale pillow. In my right hand rested an orange plastic rod. I tried tightening my fingers, and the staff actually shifted in my grip, its tip tapping firmly against the rumpled sheet beneath me. I can move. Everything feels solid, real, and ready. I adjusted my posture, planted the rod upright, and held my position with steady confidence.
