Nighttime Indicator Glow

The hallway got really quiet after dark, and with the overhead lights off, my eyes caught a sharp amber glow right at floor level. I crept along the baseboard, keeping low to avoid slipping on the slick tile. It turned out to be a phone charger plugged into the low wall outlet, its tiny indicator diode beaming like a mini lighthouse! Next to it lay a coiled black cable. I carefully nudged the thick rubber loop with my boot to test its rigidity—it made a sturdy curved archway that completely changes the defensive perimeter of this corner.
