A Curious Scent Trail

I wiggled my nose and caught a faint, sweet smell drifting right past the edge of the book! Dropping to all fours, I sniffed along the glossy cover until my paws met the cool stone tabletop. A tiny trail of crumbs led straight under a ceramic coaster. With an excited yip, I grabbed the coaster's rim and heaved it upward with both hands. Out popped a golden pretzel speck! My tail did a rapid-fire thump against the stone as I proudly nudged my prize into plain view.
