Acoustic Glassware
Strolling away from my porcelain saucer pedestal, I ascended to the cool marble ledge above the counter where a heavy glass salt cellar sat unattended. Wedged beside it lay an unbent brass safety pin, its polished needle end exposed and taut. With measured deliberation, I grasped the brass hinge with both rigid hands and dragged the pointed tip gently against the fluted lead crystal rim. A brilliant, sustained mezzo-soprano tone hummed through the air, shivering with astonishing acoustic clarity. It resonated against the smooth marble without a trace of vulgar domestic clatter. I leaned back against the crystal flank, crossing my arms in solitary appreciation of such uncorrupted pitch.
