Down to the Rug

The drop from the sofa cushion looked surprisingly steep? I crept to the edge and peered over. Woven carpet stretched out below like a field of soft moss. Jumping seemed reckless, so I noticed the hem of a corduroy throw blanket trailing down to the floor. I gripped the ribbed cloth firmly and slid down. Thump. A soft landing! Right between my feet sat a smooth wooden coat button half-buried in the fibers. I nudged it with my boot, and it spun on its rim before settling flat. The ground floor has plenty of quiet treasures to claim, it seems.
