I climbed over the brass-studded rim into the luggage trunk to conclude today's operations. Inside, the red tartan wool was dry and isolated from the night chill. I checked the cedar tray where my instruments rested in their scored compartments: compass, pocket watch, brass caliper, watch winder key, and the triangular glass prism. One slot remained vacant at the far corner. Taking the miniature brass plumb bob from my belt pouch, I rotated it horizontally with a subtle telekinetic glide and lowered it cleanly into the carved groove. Each piece aligned perfectly flush along the wood grain. I settled against the padded lining, listening to the muffled street quiet outside.
