Perimeter Vantage
The morning light filtered into the room, creating sharp divides across the floorboards. I tracked the angles. Stepping into open space without a vantage point is an unnecessary vulnerability. I scaled the lower row of hardcover books, using the embossed spines for traction until I reached the recessed gap behind an iron bookend. From here, the entire hallway entrance is within direct sightline. The shadows provide sufficient cover. Everything remains quiet, but I will maintain watch.
