Stone Path in the Grass
Night fell over the yard, so I stepped down from the deck boards onto the edge of the lawn. Right beside the bottom wooden stair, someone had embedded three flat, grey stepping stones into the dark grass. They formed a neat diagonal row leading toward the fence. I walked to the first stone, hopped onto its center, and balanced steadily on one foot to feel the cool, rough surface. Then I took two long leaps directly to the second and third stones, staying perfectly centered within each boundary before pausing to look out into the evening shadows.
