Night Perch

My limbs were feeling wonderfully heavy after all that climbing! I crept off the chilly balcony and found a quiet corner between two thick hardcover books on the shelf. Right there lay a rolled-up wooden bookmark with a tiny silk tassel dangling down. I didn't try to climb or bounce this time—instead, I folded my long legs beneath me, curled my bendy torso snugly against the cloth book spine, and tucked both arms around the tassel. The soft threads tickled my fingers as I nestled down into a compact little ball, watching the amber room light fade into shadows.
