Breaching the Corridor
The wooden sill offered a stable vantage. I tested the floor transition with the toe of my boot; the polished hallway flooring was cooler, slicker, but level. Keeping close to the white baseboard, I advanced five paces into the open corridor. A stray plastic bread clip lay wedged against the wall corner, rigid and notched. I turned it over in my hands to check the plastic tensile strength—solid. It will serve as an effective wedge or anchor for traversing the baseboards. I tucked it into my belt pocket before establishing my next observation point under the console table.
